Dublin Warm Up
Not long till the Dublin trip now, so I’ve put together a schedule to get as much live tournament practice as possible before then:
Monday 3rd: Gutshot £100 (40 runners)
Tuesday 4th: BetterPoker £50 @ Loose Cannon (60 runners)
Wednesday 5th: City100 @ Loose Cannon (50 runners)
Thursday 6th: Loose Cannon League (20 runners)
Monday 10th: Empire poker festival £200 (60 runners)
Thursday 13th: Loose Cannon League (20 runners)
Saturday 15th: Gutshot £150 (60 runners)
Tuesday 18th: Leave for Dublin
I guess it’s about getting “time on the felt” now, as opposed to actual financial results, given that the entries/rewards in Dublin are so much higher. If I can cash in 2 of the warm up tournaments above I guess I’ll be happy, but I’d like to walk away from each tournament knowing I played the cards correctly. Cue now a return of 0 from 7 ahead of the biggest weekend of the year so far! I’m also going to restrict my cash play before Ireland, so I don’t get too tired - if I bust early from events I will go home, except for the league nights.
As far as Dublin goes, I am playing Day 1B of the Main Event if anyone wants to follow it ahead of the blog entry. Depending on when I bust out, I’ll also be playing the 1500 Euro 2 day side event which Honest Dave, Volcano and Shazbo are also playing, followed by the Omaha rebuy and, finally, the carnage of the 300 Euro bounty tourney the lasr night. Last year I busted out of this on the bubble, with pocket Aces all in pre flop against the chip leader, in a pot which would have taken me third in chips. Better luck this year I hope.
I expect to be outclassed in the Omaha, as it will be a much stronger field than you would find at WSOP Omaha events. I’ll look on it at as a learning experience, and I’ve only budgeted for one rebuy and one add on (400 Euro a pop). The whole Dublin venture will set me back 10,892 USD in entries and 787 USD in rake, so it’s a sizeable chunk of bankroll, second only to the WSOP trip. I’ve also budgeted USD 1,500 for the cash games, but realisically this is only two sessions, as the Scandis will put you to difficult (and expensive) decisions every time you are in a pot with them. If you get it wrong it’s game over for the night.
I’ll leave you with a memory from the Dublin cash game last year. Blinds are €2/5 Scandi-Dansk raises UTG to 30 Euro. All folds to Scandi-Svenska who re-raises to €120. Dansk insta-calls. Pot is 240 and both players are playing about €4k.
Flop . Dansk leads for 200, Svenska raises to 800. Dansk thinks, smiles, then goes all in. Svenska throws 9d 10d into the muck face up. Dansk shows him . From the chatter, these 2 had played before, but still… :) :) :)
