Magical Mystery Poker Tour

Home Game - £30 Holdem/£10 Omaha rebuy

2 min read

The afternoon tournaments saw fields of 8/9 players, and some surprisingly long heads up action at the end of each one.

It looked like my day was going to be a cracker during the first hand of the £30 freezeout. I called a small raise with and the flop came down all hearts. I managed to eek out 1800 from the hand from Deven and Jason, and considering we only started with 3k in the chips meant I could play without pressure early on. After the break, players began to drop out as the blinds increased, and with three left it was myself, The Baron and Jason vying for the money.

I was way behind the other two after failing to knock anyone out, so was fairly short stacked when I had to make a move with . However, joyfully this was enough to crack the Baron’s Aces after the flop gave me a big combo draw, and I was back in contention. A couple of orbits later I moved in with AK, and got a customer from the Baron with AJ. A King on the flop left Tom drawing very thin, but running Jacks eliminated me from the tournament in 3rd place good for £40. Jason took down the tournament after recovering from a big chip deficit, as the Baron mused over his heads up failures once again.

The Omaha was carnage. £10 rebuys, 1500 chips per shot meant that there was a ton of action early on. For the first 7 hands we had 7 all in and calls, leading to a plethora of rebuys as the pot grew nicely. I lost a couple of early Omaha flips, but soon won one and began to build my stack. As with the last home game, the game became a bit trappy during the mid section before becoming more deep stacked later on. Unfortunately at this point I made my exit in about 5th spot - after getting a little short I was looking for a spot to move in, but unfortunately misread the board. I mistook a club for a spade and moved in with what I should was the nut flush draw and gut shot straight + overs. However, by the time I realised what had happened I worked out that I only had 4 outs to make broadway. This was soon shattered as Wilkinson showed a ten during the three way all in, and Deven showed two of them leaving me with one out! I promptly missed, and was out of the tournament in infuriating fashion. That will teach me to concentrate I guess. Tom, Deven and Wilkinson took down the money spots in this one, leaving the Baron on a hat-trick, which he was to spectularly fluff in the Main Event.

Main Event blogged tomorrow.
